The First Merchant Bank (FMB) has donated K1 million to the Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mother’s Fun Run which this year aims to equip Rumphi District Hospital and its three rural health facilities.

Presenting the cheque to NPL on Wednesday at FMB head office in Blantyre, the bank’s head of marketing Sylvia Mataka said the fun run which aims to save lives in the country is a good cause.

“Hospitals’ especially in remote and rural areas, do not have enough equipment and mothers die before they give birth. So we thought this is a good initiative. We at FMB take safe motherhood to heart as evidenced by the donation of K28 million we made to the Presidential Initiative for Safe Motherhood and Maternal Health last July,” said Mataka.

Receiving the donation, NPL business development manager, Chigomezgo Gondwe-Chokani said the initiative which has been ran since 2005 has saved a lot of lives.

“There is a lot of equipment that is required by Rumphi referral hospital and of course others. Each of the rural health facilities that surround Rumphi referral hospital will get a share of the donation. However, FMB will decide on what equipments to buy for the hospitals,” said Gondwe-Chokani.

Meanwhile, FMB has launched the Ziri Mmanja Festivity Bonanza which will run from October 1 to December 31whose grand prize is K1 million.
